WHY GREEN?

Every day on average a person throws three to four baggies away. For a family, that is thousands of bags that get thrown away each year. The bags end up sitting in the landfills for a thousand years.
We offer products that help eliminate the use of plastic and paper, saving the landfills. Say no to waste, yes to reusable stylish and fun.

Yes, it’s another post on reusable bags. Introducing Green Time Bags! If you don’t already use reusable lunch bags, I urge you to give it a try. And for those of you who already enjoy the benefits of green lunch packing, enjoy shopping for some new patterns and styles.

The silverware holder is something I haven’t come across before. I love the idea. (Safer way to pack a knife if you’re like me and need one for that apple!) I’ll be using my yellow silverware holder for my reusable stainless straws.

Last September I did a review for Wrap-N-Mat. A year later, my Wrap-N-Mat wraps still look and work just as good as day one. The amount of plastic bags I could have tossed into the landfill surely would have been staggering if I hadn’t been using a reusable bag.

Wrap-N-Mat is a family owned business that offers a reusable food wrap and place-mat in one. The original wrap, 13″ x 13″, holds food with a Velcro closure and opens completely in an octagon shape. Opening completely, it serves as a place-mat and makes it super easy to keep clean with no crumbs in corners.

The large pouch is 6 3/4″ x 7″ and is designed to hold your contents in a pouch style envelope.  The large pouch can hold an entire quart of strawberries.

This “Going Green” print is made from organic cotton that’s lined with LPDE food safe plastic. I love that there are so many fabric patterns and colors to choose from. Each member of the family can have their own design; it’s perfect for those who need a safe way to identify a particular snack due to food intolerance or allergies.

Wrap-N-Mat wraps help stop the unnecessary waste in my day-to-day routine as I take strides to greatly reduce my use of the plastic baggie.

Engage Green is an innovative green company that creates top-notch fashionable bags and accessories. The Engage Green collection is made from recycled materials, turning waste into something wonderful.
Having done a review for Engage Green in the Spring, I knew I would be in for a treat.

EG9 Penguin & Rooster Large Messenger

The Engage Green Messenger bag is perfect for back-to-school time. This bag is made from recycled plastic. It is roomy and offers many pockets for organizing. The main area is large enough for a laptop but there isn’t any padding for protection. It has a comfortable adjustable strap, a cell phone pocket, and a water bottle pocket. The material feels similar to nylon.

Wondering how recycled plastic is turned into the material for this bag?

How PETE is recycled . . .Plastics are collected from curbside recycling and drop-off locations. From there, they go to a material recovery facility, where they are sorted and sent to a reclamation facility. There, the plastic is inspected and washed. Next, it is chopped into small flakes. The flakes are placed into a flotation tank and then dried in a tumbler. The dried flakes are placed in an extruder where they are melted. The melted plastic is sifted through a screen to remove any contaminants and then it is formed into strands. Finally, the strands are chopped into pellets and sold to manufacturers to make new products, such as the fabric that is used to create Engage Green designs.

Did you know . . . It takes 18 post-consumer 16 oz. plastic drinking bottles to make one yard of our material?

My on-the-go messenger bag tells the message. The message that there’s a better way.

We turn consumerism into something positive by engaging what we call [The Green Cycle] – choosing the right material, creating a functional design and engaging environmentally conscious consumers.

I have been fortunate to review products from two companies. Both are environmentally aware of the unnecessary waste in our day-to-day routine and both companies have taken strides toward the reduction of the plastic baggie.

I have chosen to review both companies in one post since I have been using both of their designs for reusable bags simultaneously. Both companies offer a fantastic product; I recommend them both.

Wrap-N-Mat, a family owned business since 1997, offers a reusable food wrap and placemat in one. The original wrap is 13″ x 13″. It holds flat foods like sandwiches or crackers or cookies. When open, it lays completely flat in an octagon shape. The wrap is folded around the sandwich and then fastened with a Velcro like closure. Since it opens completely flat, it serves as a placemat. This also makes it super easy to clean. There just won’t be any crumbs in the corner! I wipe clean with a damp cloth or hand wash when needed.

The mini pouch is 5″ x 6″ and holds more bulky foods like chips and fruit. It is used the same as the original wrap. I used the mini pouch to keep my lettuce and tomato separate from my sandwich to avoid a soggy lunch. The fabric for both is lined with LPDE food safe plastic that keeps food fresh by keeping the air out. They offer many prints making them attractive for all ages. I wouldn’t have chosen this particular fabric but my son rather enjoyed it since it’s not our typical style. I have been using both of these daily and they have proven to be very convenient. I love having zero waste lunches!

Snack Taxi, another family company, makes its reusable bags from their home-based workshop in Massachusetts. Local sewers create a stylish bag for snacks and sandwiches. They offer plenty of fabric choices for your bag or for a bag that you give as a gift.

The Snack Taxi mission: “to create fun and friendly items that make it easy for everyone to move their food in sustainable style”.

The sandwich sack is 7.5″ x 6″. It is an envelope style sack in that the sandwich goes into the bag and the flap then folds over it with a Velcro closure. Easy to slide a sandwich into. It wipes out easy; I do invert it to get the smallest of crumbs out of the corners. I wipe it clean with a cloth and hand wash when needed but it can also be machine washed. The exterior is 100%cotton and the interior is lined with polyurethane coated nylon. The sandwich sack is a daily must at our house. It is a wise choice for food transportation; a wise choice for the planet.
