Recover Brands

RECOVER produces 100% recycled apparel.

This is an eco friendly brand that offers casual clothing for the entire family. This shirt is made from plastic bottles (8 per shirt) and salvaged cotton scraps.

The medium Sunset recover tee fits closer to how most of my size small tees fit. so, I’d recommend maybe going up a size from what you usually wear.

The fabric felt a bit scratchy but then so do many shirts before the first wash. After the first wash it was normal comfortable and I’ve worn and washed (in cold/warm) this shirt multiple times and the fit has remained. Visit their website for a look at all the sustainable outdoor apparel available from this Western North Carolina company.

Wonya Wood

handmade fencing – the kind for little toy animals – that is heirloom quality

I’d like to thank Mark Peachy for allowing me to review and share his fences here on the blog. It is truly a find as you won’t get anything comparable in retail stores. The fence has 11 sections that each measure 10″ for a total length just over 8′. (height is a bit over 3″) The fence easily folds into a rectangle block for compact storage.

Each fence section is joined by wooden dowels and the flexible sections bend (both ways) into whatever shape you want. Round like a corral or partitioned off different ways. And the most important part is that it WORKS. This fence stands easily on its own. Even on carpet.

Made from reclaimed maple. Natural wood with no coatings. Good craftsmanship resulting in a sturdy and durable toy. It’s a simple design for unlimited playing opportunities (farm, zoo, Jurassic Park)

A little bit about Mark:

I am a residential remodeler. I have always made things for our house and stuff for the kids. About two years ago I had a stroke that paralyzed my left side. I have recovered a lot of movement, but it still limits the remodeling that I can do. So I try to sell projects that I have made for the kids and that we enjoy. The fence is similar to what my amish grandfather had made for me. So I made some for my children and there cousins and the fences are enjoyed by all.

Wonya. My daughter Andrea could not pronounce her name correctly when she was young. It came out as Wonya. I thought it was cute and have always liked the name since, so that is where the business name came from.

Misc. information. This is a family owned/run business. I guess it would be consider a hobby turned into a business. One reason I have made items for our family (besides saving $) is usually the quality is much better than what you can get at Walmart or other discount stores.

Eco Minimalist Footwear-I really like the sound of this. A shoe that allows my feet to flex & function naturally & that is environmentally friendly.

For my 1st experience wearing a minimalist shoe, I did a field test of kigo’s pai style. I started wearing them indoors. They were so comfy that I soon ended up wearing them out usually paired with jeans or pants. They equal everyday wearable. The epitome of comfort.

I found them durable enough for hiking and for all the ground covered running errands. They would be a good shoe to pack for traveling since they are lightweight and bendable. They really feel like nothing on your feet (the point of a minimalist shoe). The pai has a wide toe area and rubber soles that grip good. I like to wear mine with a thin sock (basically to absorb moisture) and I haven’t felt anything on the inside of the shoe that rubs or is irritating. And the icing on the cake is that the laces are a good length! (anyone else wonder why some shoes have miles of lacing?)

Kigo shoes only come in whole sizes and I recommend that you check the size guide on the website to order the correct fit.

Creating order out of chaos one plant at time!

Global Garden Friends

The Background Info

Global Garden Friends is a young company, incorporated in 2009. Our first and flagship product is the “Ultimate Plant Cage.” Our latest hot seller is the “Ultimate Plant Clip”. We put “global” in our name for a reason – we want all the people in the world to have a chance to create order out of chaos in their own gardens.

My review was prompted by a need for a support system for blackberry plants that we are growing in large clay pots. Our blackberry plants here in South Carolina will need a different support system than what we used in Ohio on our blackberry farm.

Brambles start small but grow quickly reaching 5 feet in height.

You can see how these beauties can grow! From farm to pot, let’s continue with the review-

The Ultimate Plant Cage, the Ultimate Plant Stakes, and the Ultimate Plant Clips are, well, Ultimate!

The Ultimate Plant Cage comes in 2 parts, the base and the stakes. (also included are knuckles, hex bolts, wing nuts and pole caps. no tools required) The base is a “snap-together” design which makes it completely adjustable. Build and use it around your plants as needed. The cage comes with 6 of the Ultimate Plants Stakes. The stakes can also be purchases separately. These support poles extent up to 32″ by a “spin and lock” mechanism. ( 18″ outer poles and 14″ inner poles) It is super easy to adjust height with plant growth.

The Ultimate Plant Clips – I would have loved to have had these instead of using twine on 300 plants! These plants clips are reusable and they secure plants easily and gently. They have leaf shape “arms” that resemble the arms of those toy monkeys that come in a barrel (A Barrel of Monkeys).

Made from 100% recyclable plastic (and certified biodegradable) here in the USA, these Eco friendly garden support products exceeded my expectations. Visit the Global Garden Friends website and Global Garden Friends on facebook.

Made in the US from 95% recycled materials, these are lightweight, fuzzy cases that’s just the thing to protect your expensive gadgets.

I’m happy to be using a one-of-a-kind case that’s kind to the environment.

What is the ReFleece material?

ReFleece is a new kind of felt.  The outer charcoal grey layer comes from post-industrial recycled fleece scrap.  The inner colored layer comes directly from a recovered fleece jacket, collected through Patagonia’s Common Threads Initiative.   We wash the jackets, then cut them up into squares roughly the size of a case.  The two layers are then put on top of each other and pressed together.  This low energy manufacturing process gives the fleece a new form and a new life.

Is that my old jacket in there?

It is!  Well… it’s somebody’s jacket.  The lining of this case comes straight from jackets recovered through Patagonia’s Common Threads Initiative.  Your fleece jacket is neither re-shredded nor re-melted nor shipped across the ocean to be reprocessed.  We just clean, cut and press it into the lining of the case.

My ReFleece™ Kindle case not only looks good and feels good, but it does a good job protecting against scratches and dust on my Kindle.  The elastic corners are stitched securely and gives my Kindle a snug, safe fit. The case offers a cable port opening for charging. It can also fold all the way back.

ReFleece™ has grouped colors into different colorways for you to choose from. Remember that the lining is made from upcycled jackets, so each case will be unique. My case color fits into the “earth green colorways” category. (the pics I took look more blue than green)

Jennifer at ReFleece™ has news about the Kickstarter campaign: “We are taking back people’s fleece and making custom cases — right out of their own old stuff — for them!” Visit their website to participate.

Its Description:

The idea for BowlOvers™ was born several years ago in the English countryside by Harriet Campbell, who disliked using cling wrap and for years had taken shower caps from hotels to put over bowls rather than use it. However, this solution wasn’t ideal, as Harriet really wanted to have something that could be washed and re-used over and over again. Putting the tea towels in the washing machine one day a light bulb came on and BowlOvers™ started their journey. Harriet made samples, spent a lot of time talking to friends, telling them she was going to develop the concept, but wondered how she could get her idea finally off the ground. One day, a friend suggested Harriet enter the Country Homes & Interiors Magazine “Rural Business Award” (UK edition), as apparently all the entries would get a short comment from the judges. She entered, and much to her delight and surprise, her BowlOvers™ were one of the runners up and the prize was several hours’ business consultation with a marketing firm. Their encouragement and professional advice was the final “piece of the pie” that helped Harriet to take her idea, and make it reality.

BowlOversare fast becoming a staple in every pantry, receiving great mentions in the press for this “very clever and jolly useful” way of resolving the issue of food wrap in an eco-friendly and convenient way.

The Facts:

Made from 100% cotton

Fits bowls sizes small 2-4″, medium 6-8″, large 8-10′, and salad days 12-14″

Each collection contains six covers, two of each size.

Available in five different collections

Machine washable and can be used over and over again

Convenient way to store leftovers in the fridge, cover dishes on counter-tops, bring to picnics or BBQ’s to keep flies at bay, place over dishes for the microwave, or to transport food to pot luck dinners!

Makes for a happier planet

My Review:

A wise Eco alternative to wasteful plastic wrap! The elastic edges allows it to fit snugly over my bowls. I use them mostly with round bowls but I have used them on a few square containers just the same. I don’t have a bowl for the smallest size cover but found it useful to cover drinks when outside. There is a paw print on this small size cover in the Original collection so it’s probably designed to be used for a pet food can. I’ve also used BowlOvers™ when making my Nut Rolls to keep the bread warm while it rises. They are a handy kitchen helper taking up very little storage space. And they would make for a thoughtful hostess or housewarming gift.

I’m so glad that spring is on the way because I love spending time outdoors. My small outdoor space consists of a few green plants, some seasonal blooming flowers, and a small assortment of mismatched but comfy outdoor furniture.  When I added a Mad Mat to it, here’s what I got…

…the same small outdoor space jazzed up with a stylish,  Eco-friendly outdoor rug that requires zero maintenance. Just  rinse with water to clean. It doesn’t absorb or trap moisture so it dries quickly making it mildew and mold resistant.

The Designed for Outdoors family is a customer-centered team of outdoor-relaxation e-commerce sites including,,,, and is the largest Internet retailer of outdoor rugs offering more than 20 brands. The styles, colors, and collections are sure to help you bring your indoors, out!

Outdoor Rugs Only offers many styles and sizes of Mad Mats to fit your outdoor decor for porch, pool, patio or deck. Mad Mats are all Eco-friendly;  constructed with 100% recycled plastic. I have the small (3’x5′) warm grey stripes Mad Mat. Although it is named warm grey, it is definitely more brown than grey. It comes with Velcro stays to keep it in place since the rug is lightweight. I didn’t use these since it was just as easy to tuck the Mad Mat rug ends under an outdoor chair/table.

Think spring… and be sure to check out these incredible rugs that offer both function and design while being Earth kind.
