A “thank you” to Birdcage Press for allowing me to review a few games from their ART category.

ツ Go Fish for Impressionist Artists. Play a game of Go Fish by trying to collect four paintings from each artist. (Other memory games, too) Learning skills include memory, concentration, visual processing, strategic thinking, and art appreciation. A great supplement to your art curriculum.

ツ Art Close Up: Museum of Modern Art. Memory and Old Maid are two of several games that can be played with this deck of art cards. Learning skills include art appreciation, memory and matching, and pattern recognition. I love playing Old Maid this way! Another fun addition to your art studies.

American Art Ditto

ツ American Art Ditto. “Discover America’s greatest artists as you match up pairs of art tiles. Then collect your winnings on 8 art collecting cards that show the beauty and grandeur of life in America”. Having an art collection card where your matching art tiles go is a clever way to add to the classic Memory game. An effortless way to learn the names of the artists and their works.

COLORFUL. EDUCATIONAL. HIGH QUALITY.

eeBoo has a variety of puzzles with different piece counts. All cute designs. AND the eeBoo puzzles are made from 90% recycled gray board with soy based inks! The pieces are thick and lock together nicely. A valuable and educational addition to a playroom. They would make a wonderful gift.

A SEQUENCE GAME JUST FOR KIDS!

Play a card from your hand, place your chip on a corresponding character on the board…When you have 4 in a row, it’s a SEQUENCE and you win! Use a UNICORN card to place your chip anywhere. Remove your opponent’s chip with a DRAGON card. Have fun with you friends playingSEQUENCE®FOR KIDS!

Just as much fun as the adult Sequence game, Sequence For Kids is perfect for ages 3-6. Young players start learning basic game playing skills like taking turns and holding cards (three cards) as well as developing strategy and learning to think ahead. The character animals get matched from the cards to the board for a winning sequence of four in a row. Easy to learn (instructions here) and the play time is suitable for little players. Game includes a folding game board, playing cards, and playing chips (red, blue, green, and yellow). Thanks Jax for your fun family games

SEE WHAT YOUR DICE CAN DOODLE!™

Create a ‘doodle’ with a few rolls of the DOODLE DICE™. There’s a different doodle pictured on each card in the deck. When you build a doodle that matches one of the cards , you take that card. Block an opponent’s turn or take one of their cards away. Collect one card of each color and you win! It’s the fun challenging way for everyone in your family to a be a ‘doodle artist’!

P1090017

Win Doodle Dice™ by being the first to get a card of each color. A different doodle is pictured on each card. The orange cards contain easy doodles because it takes only one dice to match. The red card has doodle pictures that require two dice matches; the yellow cards, three; the green cards, four; the blue cards, five; and the purple cards, all six. We opted to just roll the dice with our hands because the shaker cup was very noisy. But younger players with small hands might find the cup easier to use (ages 6-adult). Cards contain the doodle word and card color in English, French, and Spanish. A nice game to incorporate into a foreign language class.

It was easy to learn (complete instructions here) and super fun. It’s recommended for 2-6 players; I played with 2 and also 4 players and didn’t notice any difference in game play (I lost both times). Win or loose, I highly recommend this unique dice and card game from Jax!

Kings go in the corners. Play your cards solitaire style and extend your turn as long as you can. Can’t make a single play? Pay the pot. First to empty your hand? You win the pot…plus your opponents’ point chips for their unplayed cards! Reach 100 points and win the game!

P1080492A fun version of the classic card game. It comes with a uniquely designed card deck, scoring chips and a plastic folding tray that serves as the centerpiece of the game keeping the cards neat.

A game for 2-8 players ages 7 to adult. I think that six players are too many because it takes too long to play. Two players are fine but there might be several turns without being able to make a play. My opinion is that 4 players works best.

This Jax game is easy to learn and fun to play. View the complete instructions here.

Although the instructions say to equally distribute the chips among the players at the start of the game, this isn’t really necessary. A pile or two of chips that everyone can reach is fine. The chips in the centerpiece pot is what calculates the winner’s score. Truth be told, we found the chip scoring to be a bit silly and prefer the scoring method of the classic card game. It’s another great game from Jax that is small and easy to take on visits and/or travels.

Solitaire Frenzy transforms solitaire into a quick paced game that requires multiple players. Be the player with the most cards on the game board to win!

P1080218

Not an educational game, but certainly a lot of fun. It makes you think fast and pay attention. The game consists of 6 color-coded packs of playing cards, a game board, score cards and instructions. View Solitaire Frenzy instructions here. Be sure to read the Solitaire Frenzy tip. This game does best with several players because game play depends on everyone’s cards.

Although play is meant to be a “frenzy”, players need to exercise some control of their cards when placing them on the game board. Messy cards are a total distraction to us organizers! Seriously though, the cards on the board need to be kept in reasonably neat piles so that players can continue playing their cards.

We found it best to designate a score keeper to collect cards from the game board. The score keeper’s job is to group the cards by colors and return them to the players to count score.

Polygon is another fun strategy game from Jax. Play your polygon tiles to create a group of three numbers. The numbers determine the score and the player with the highest score at the end of the game wins!

P1070053

I agree with the age recommendation (7-adult) for the game because chip placement is challenging. A first time “test-run” game is a good idea to learn the rules. Just match numbers and colors and work toward the highest score. This game uses addition and multiplication skills. A calculator is a good idea at the end of the game to add up all those points.

The game can be played by 2,3, or 4 players. Or maybe play it as a single player to achieve your highest scoring game.

Polygon contains a folding game board, one die, 49 polygon tiles, and 50 score cards. As with all the Jax games that I’ve reviewed, everything is sturdy and attractive. And fun!
