Packed with tested strategies and practical tips, this book is the essential, life-changing guide for everyone who owns a smartphone.

Is your phone the first thing you reach for in the morning and the last thing you touch before bed? Do you frequently pick it up “just to check,” only to look up forty-five minutes later wondering where the time has gone? Do you say you want to spend less time on your phone—but have no idea how to do so without giving it up completely? If so, this book is your solution.

Award-winning journalist Catherine Price presents a practical, hands-on plan to break up—and then make up—with your phone. The goal? A long-term relationship that actually feels good.

You’ll discover how phones and apps are designed to be addictive, and learn how the time we spend on them damages our abilities to focus, think deeply, and form new memories. You’ll then make customized changes to your settings, apps, environment, and mindset that will ultimately enable you to take back control of your life.

Paperback, 192 pages

I would recommend adding this to the typical health curriculum for high school grades. The author gives good advice from evidence based studies as well as common sense. Part one of the book is “The Wake Up” designed to ” freak you out. It’s a synthesis of how and why our phones are designed to be hard to put down, and what effect spending so much time on them may be having our relationships and out mental and physical health.” Part two is “The Breakup”. This part is ” a 30-day plan designed to help you establish a new, healthier relationship with your phone.” Both the reading and 30-day plan would make a great class project.

I am that person that already limits phone, television, and computer. Glad to have gained more insight into this topic from Catherine Price’s book. A smart read.

Organic and Natural Skin Care – Beauty By Earth

Beauty By Earth was created by two friends asking a question that is so often considered these days: how can you find health and beauty products that are safe to use around young children? Like so many parents, we found it incredibly difficult to find products that were effective, easy to access, and natural. So we figured why not make them ourselves?

Since we first decided to create Beauty By Earth, it’s been one heck of a ride! But throughout this experience, we’ve stayed dedicated to the idea that got us started: inspiring beauty and nurturing health. We’re thrilled to bring the items that have enriched our lives and improved our well being to you and your family.

BOAR BRISTLE HAIR BRUSH

This is way better than I ever imagined it would be. It “detangles as it spreads oil from your roots to the tip of your hair. No more breakage, no more split ends, no more frizz: just strong, healthy, beautiful hair.” It is gentle on hair. The longer nylon bristles help with tangles and the boar bristles make hair shiny and smooth. It feels great.

BATH BOMBS

A box of six (joint relief, bedtime ritual, just relax, get well soon, muscle relief, relaxing detox) made with natural ingredients. “Even the humblest bathtubs are transformed into an oasis when you drop in one of these soothing, aromatic fizzies.” Good gift idea for many occasions. Each bath bomb is labeled so they can be gifted individually.

What a find! Products for face, lips, body, and hair. Beauty By Earth offers a 30-day guarantee on all  products.

Maison Parfaite

The Maison Parfaite silicone steamer basket. Available on Amazon.

It’s also great for washing up just a few strawberries. And as a cushy protection for boiling eggs. Super easy to store. The Maison Parfaite claim: “You’ve found the ONLY 100% Silicone steamer basket on Amazon”.

This review follows the review I did for Piranha Fish, a company that also sells their 100% food grade silicone steamer baskets on Amazon.  FYI- the baskets from both these companies appear identical aside from the color. This item, as did the identical Piranha Fish steamer basket, passed my “pinch test”. (meaning it hopefully does not contain harmful fillers)

Piranha Fish

Piranha Fish Inc. is a brand new company that sells quality products on Amazon.com

Steamer Basket. 100% food grade silicone. One color option. Feet allow the basket to be about an inch high. Handles are useful for lifting out of a hot pot. I had been using a metal steamer- since forever- and prefer this silicone style. I also use the Piranha Fish steamer basket for quickly rinsing off (colander) small amounts of fruit. This item passed my “pinch test”. (meaning it hopefully does not contain harmful fillers)

Collapsible Lunch Box. One size. One color. Two compartments. This is a nice option for those needing a lunch box. We aren’t in the to-go lunch bunch, so we haven’t gotten to try this more than one time.

Every new parent waits expectantly for their child’s first words. But if this milestone is late to arrive, they quickly become concerned. Luckily, Talking with Your Toddler contains speech language techniques that anxious parents can use to encourage late talkers to begin verbalizing. Based on proven speech therapy techniques, the 50 activities in this book encourage and expand language while simultaneously providing kids with endless entertainment. These educational exercises can be incorporated seamlessly into typical daily routines. From naming every clothing piece when getting dressed to exclaiming “pop!” when popping bubbles during playtime, these simple lessons make talking fun. The book includes step-by-step directions and detailed worksheets to ensure that the techniques work in an easy-to-follow, unintimidating way.

Paperback, 120 pages, Ulysses Press

This new title from Ulysses Press is targeted for parents of children ages 2 to 5. Full of helpful information, advice, and encouragement, I would recommend it to new parents and to parents of a little one (ages 2-5) with a speech concern. There is a lot of common sense reading and ideas already thought of. It had some needed reminders and new activities. A quick read.

Every Christina Moss Naturals® product nurtures naturally useful skin by nourishing the body’s largest organ with safe, effective, natural ingredients. never, ever includes toxic or potentially harmful ingredients, puts the environment firstreflects a minimalist mentality.

Some comments on a few of the Christina Moss Naturals products:

Product Details

This face wash is concentrated, so a little goes a long way. It is good for all skin types. I am insanely picky about face care products!- so I’m still deciding on this one. In a similar bottle is the moisturizer. While it is fragrance free, the last ingredient, anise, is very detectable. Unique scent to any skin care I’ve used. I’ve used this moisturizer on my little one.

Product Details

Shampoo had a big lather. Not a good fit for my hair. It felt clean but didn’t feel nourished. Found it made my hair tangled.

Product Details

Love peppermint in my lip balm. Great for all in the family – It’s exactly what everyone needs for all seasons.

Product Details

No one can get a grip on this super slippery soap. Doesn’t lather much but cleans nicely. Use carefully around eyes.

Christina Moss Naturals is CRUELTY FREE- thank you!

All Good Products

All Good is a lifestyle brand with a clear vision: to live and inspire others to live in balance with nature. We make organic body care products because we want you to feel amazing from the soothing natural benefits of botanical ingredients.

All Good Deodorant Cedarwood & Spruce - 2.5 oz Stick

All Good deodorants use naturally occurring enzymes and essential oils to fight odor causing bacteria. Arrowroot powder absorbs moisture and dries underarms, while aloe vera and our homegrown calendula soothe sensitive skin. Our promise is that nothing in these causes harm: all good ingredients, always. Available in Unscented, Tea Tree & Basil, Cedarwood & Spruce, Rose Geranium & Jasmine.

In a stick form, this one worked for me. Natural. Effective. And smells Good. Arrowroot powder is said to absorb moisture and keep underarms dry and I found it to do just that. I thought the scent super nice. (Cedarwood! Spruce!) I bet the Tea Tree/Basil and Rose Geranium/Jasmine are equally nice.

This deodorant also measures up at EWG’s Skin Deep database. I did look up the first ingredient (Propanediol) and found it to be safe (from what I can determine). truthinaging.com/ingredients/propanediol

Captain Blankenship

‘beauty wild with nature’. We are a small, women-run company in the Hudson River Valley that makes products that are luxurious and honest. We formulate our products with only organic and wild-harvested ingredients that are domestically grown when possible. We never use synthetic preservatives, parabens, sulfates or “fragrance.” We use recyclable and reusable glass packaging, making a positive environmental impact. We test on ourselves and friends and never on animals. We believe in transparency in every aspect of our line.

Lots of great natural products. Easy enough said. And let me make this review a highlight for two of my favorites!

LIME & VETIVER CREAM DEODORANT

A great product to start the day off right. I will continue to use and hope this one ends my search for a natural deodorant. The scent however I’m not sure about. Vetiver? It’s a “smoky” essential oil and I’m not crazy about it for topical use. (as oppose to diffusing) Tons of essential oil combos could be used and maybe they will add to their line and offer more choices.

(Organic Arrowroot Powder helps keep you dry, Aluminum Free Baking Soda helps neutralize odor, Organic Hops Extract fights against bacteria, Organic Coconut Oil keeps you moisturized, Organic Lime, Lemongrass and Vetiver Essential Oils keep you smelling fresh.) Why switch to natural deodorants? use this link for a good answer.

AVOCADO & PEPPERMINT HAND, CUTICLE & FOOT BALM

And this product is the perfect way to end the day. A good moisture treatment for dry heels, it is a minty, refreshing treat at the end of the day for my tired feet. Peppermint always smells good to me.

(Organic Avocado Oil deeply penetrates dry skin and improves texture, Organic Shea Butter is naturally high in vitamins and minerals and intensely moisturizes skin, Organic Calendula Extract helps heal cracked skin, Organic Cocoa Butter, rich in Vitamin E, nourishes skin and smells like chocolate, Organic Rosehip Seed Oil, naturally high in Vitamin C, hydrates thirsty skin, Wildharvested Myrhh Essential Oil softens and repairs dry skin and cuticles.)
