Traditional Hooked Rugs and Accessories with a Twist

Round hooked mug rug, polar bear, approximately 5 in diameter, gift, stocking stuffer , cottage, ski house

Polar bear mug rug/ coaster. Handmade in Maine by Ellen Skea Marshall. I LOVE this!  Completely handmade, Ellen even hand dyed the blue for this piece. And this is her own created pattern.

While this is truly the best ever coffee cup companion, I really enjoying looking at this guy & decided to use him for my eyewear care {Polar Bear rug to place my reading glasses}.

I have identified as many things in my life. A daughter, a sister, a friend, a student, a teacher, a wife, a mother, but now, along with those things I am a fiber artist.

Living in the mountains of Western Maine, I am surrounded by beauty. Having lived in many parts of the country I have lots to draw upon when I sit down to draw, design, color plan and finally hook.

My mother’s mother, who was gone before I was born, was a rug hooker. My grandfather used to muse that he was afraid to leave home because his clothes would be turned into rugs while he was away. I am fortunate to have grown up walking on her rugs, not imagining at the time that I would be carrying on her tradition of hooking while giving it a modern twist with design elements and a use of fabrics that she didn’t have access to.

I love what I am doing now and hope that you will enjoy my designs, my work and want to stop by my ETSY shop and see the  patterns and finished pieces.

Please share this with others. The art of traditional rug hooking is making a comeback and it is very exciting to see. I am fortunate enough to be able to hook along side very talented women in Maine and continue this very important heritage craft.

Take a look at Anllelina’s creative studio in Littlestown, Pennsylvania

My review: Five stars all the way. I received a quality custom stamp. It is a self-inking name stamp to be used for signing cards/ letters/ gift tags. I would recommend shopping A Lovely Detail for a personalized stamp. It is super easy to shop and order-way better than large online sites.

Pinch Me

Charles Viancin

Review Update: I’ve since purchased a few other lids from Charles Vianin and sadly some have not passed the “pinch test”. (meaning it contains harmful fillers) 😦

February 2013 review: A good thing for your home and family! Easier to use than clingy plastic and cheaper over time, this lid is a “green” way to store, reheat, and present your food. It has great suction and seals tight to the top of my glass and stainless bowls. I have the 10″ lid and it works perfectly on several different size bowls. The hibiscus flower look is nature inspired and contemporary. In addition to reheating, storing and serving, I like to use of the lid while entertaining outdoors as an attractive way to cover food.

The Curated Closet: A Simple System for Discovering Your Personal Style and Building Your Dream Wardrobe

The Curated Closet: A Simple System for Discovering Your Personal Style and Building Your Dream Wardrobe

Paperback, 272 pages

Is your closet jam-packed and yet you have absolutely nothing to wear? Can you describe your personal style in one sentence? If someone grabbed a random piece from your closet right now, how likely is it that it would be something you love and wear regularly? In The Curated Closet, style writer Anuschka Rees presents a fascinatingly strategic approach to identifying, refining, and expressing personal style and building the ideal wardrobe to match it, with style and shopping strategies that women can use every day.

I ended up skimming this very wordy book. Not very practical and way too involved. There were some color pictures; I think the book could use less words and more pics. If I had enough free time, maybe I would find this book fun. Maybe.

The Blogging for Books program provided this complimentary copy for review purposes. No other compensation was received. All opinions are my own.

We design and manufacture the newest line of unique eyeglass holders that do away with chains, pins, and bling. Our eyeglass holder has an absolute minimum of parts, and is very small. Invented to solve a long term problem – what to do with your glasses.

My review: The Eye Loop did the job of holding readers and sunglasses. (Also works for badges) Like the simple look. Like that it doesn’t harm clothing. This review was tested at home by me, “in the air” by my airline pilot reviewer, and a third magnetic holder was given away locally.

There are currently three styles to buy at an affordable price of ten dollars. (shipping is 3.00 or free with purchase of two holders)

The Eye Loop was featured in the Feb issue of Real Simple Magazine.

I try to keep candles around the house. It’s a decor that comes in handy during power outages and I love the ambiance of a pretty candle when the sun goes down. But candle shopping is difficult when you’re looking for a candle that doesn’t have synthetic fragrance and that will actually produce a quality burn.

shop Big Dipper Wax Works. all natural beeswax candles. bright idea.

Beeswax Heart Pillar

From reading on the Big Dipper website, I’ve learned that beeswax candles are better for the environment. They burn cleaner, longer, and brighter.  Big Dipper has a large selection of candles. The Heart Pillar is very pretty & perfect for warming hearts this Valentine’s Day.

Big Dipper is a Green America approved business located in Seattle. They donate 10% of the net profits from all candle sales “to organizations dedicated to outreach, education, and sustainability efforts devoted to promoting sustainable beekeeping. ”

It think it’s a great idea to bee Eco friendly and use beeswax candles from Big Dipper.
