Inspired by the trend of “open when” letters sweeping the nation, Instant Happy author Karen Salmansohn has created a bound collection of 12 notes for readers to flip open whenever they need a pep talk. With categories like “Open when you need a laugh,” “Open when you’re feeling stressed out,” and “Open when you need courage,” these little happiness-boosters are based on Salmansohn’s viral posters that combine witty sayings with colorful graphics.

Hardcover, 24 pages, 7.4 x 0.5 x 4.2 inches

Keep um’ closed. The little letters in this book could have been written by a grade school student. (“I’m the happiness kitten. I’ve sprinkled happiness dust on you”) It references Buddhism and karma, so probably not a Christian read. And it also has one not so endearing thought (like thinking someone is an idiot).

Not recommended.

Released in summer 2016, What Do You Do With a Problem? has already hit the New York Times best seller list and is receiving rave reviews! This inspiring book is the follow-up to What Do You Do With an Idea?—and tells the story of a persistent problem and the child who isn’t sure what to make of it. Created by award-winning author Kobi Yamada and illustrator by Mae Besom, Problem has also hit the Publisher’s Weekly best seller list and received a gold Mom’s Choice Award!

I’m giving both these titles “RAVE REVIEWS”, too. These two hardcover picture books are both amazing in text and illustration. Amazon gives them both an age range up to 8 – This isn’t the case as the flap jackets say “This is a story for anyone, at any age, who has ever had a problem/idea….“. I am very thankful for the opportunity to feature Compendium on the blog and appreciate the positive influence that their products give.

These books were provided by Compendium to help facilitate the writing of an honest review. A positive review is not guaranteed, and all opinions are my own. No other compensation was received

Oil of Joy - Isaiah 61:3

Like the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz, the storms of life can leave us broken, and it can be tough to continue. But God provides us the oil of His joy, to heal our hurts, and allow us to move on in Him.

What are Joyful ‘toons?

Joyful ‘toons are cartoons that are based on verses from the Bible. Each cartoon consists of a verse  and a cartoon illustration. It is my prayer that they be used to exhort and encourage Christians in their walk with the Lord, and also that they be used to reach out to those who don’t know Jesus as Lord and savior. joyfultoons.com/faq/

About Mike Waters, cartoonist

I began drawing cartoons based on Bible verses in the 1990′s. I have always loved drawing cartoons, and one day the idea came to me for a cartoon that would illustrate the relationship between faith and grace. Not long after, an idea for a second cartoon came to me. I noticed that the back page of the weekly bulletin at my church was often blank, so I approached the pastor with the idea of using my cartoons to fill that space, and he agreed to my proposal. After that, ideas for other cartoons started coming to me, and they became a regular feature of the church bulletin. I then thought of sharing the cartoons, which by this time were called Joyful ‘toons. joyfultoons.com/about/

Smoke Signals - James 5:13

When we are faced with trouble, we should not wait until we have come to the end of our own resources before we seek God’s help and direction in prayer.
