Traditional Hooked Rugs and Accessories with a Twist

Polar bear mug rug/ coaster. Handmade in Maine by Ellen Skea Marshall. I LOVE this! Completely handmade, Ellen even hand dyed the blue for this piece. And this is her own created pattern.
While this is truly the best ever coffee cup companion, I really enjoying looking at this guy & decided to use him for my eyewear care {Polar Bear rug to place my reading glasses}.

Ellen Skea Marshall
I have identified as many things in my life. A daughter, a sister, a friend, a student, a teacher, a wife, a mother, but now, along with those things I am a fiber artist.
Living in the mountains of Western Maine, I am surrounded by beauty. Having lived in many parts of the country I have lots to draw upon when I sit down to draw, design, color plan and finally hook.
My mother’s mother, who was gone before I was born, was a rug hooker. My grandfather used to muse that he was afraid to leave home because his clothes would be turned into rugs while he was away. I am fortunate to have grown up walking on her rugs, not imagining at the time that I would be carrying on her tradition of hooking while giving it a modern twist with design elements and a use of fabrics that she didn’t have access to.
I love what I am doing now and hope that you will enjoy my designs, my work and want to stop by my ETSY shop and see the patterns and finished pieces.
Please share this with others. The art of traditional rug hooking is making a comeback and it is very exciting to see. I am fortunate enough to be able to hook along side very talented women in Maine and continue this very important heritage craft.
