Music publishing house founded in 1986 by Sylvain Lemay, Les Productions d’OZ has quickly established itself as a leader in classical guitar music publishing, both for solo instrument and in ensemble music settings.

Les Productions d’Oz has published nine ukulele books by composer Samantha Muir. I’ll share a few things about two of them.

12 Progressive Studies for Ukulele

The Twelve Progressive Studies book has 24 pages and is suggested as an easy to intermediate level. I would recommend some previous ukulele background for this and for any of her books. The books contain original pieces for the ukulele in both tab and notation.

The Classical Ukulele Method book is the largest of her ukulele books with 60 pages. It is suitable for self learning and would be good for use as part of an educational curriculum. I would suggest pairing it with something like the Hal Leonard method book. As an FYI, in this book Ms Muir uses a different approach to fingering notation (PIMA) then I am use to. She alternates fingers on strings and she doesn’t use A, just PIM. I don’t care for this technique and I like to stick playing with the P for string 4, I for 3, M for 2 and A for 1. I have been use to the ukulele playing style of James Hill and Daniel Ward.

All nine books have similar covers which I think are artistically pleasing.

Uke Leash

Teach your uke to stay

image131

Uke Leash is a simple product that helps ukulele players support the neck position of the ukulele while playing, without having to use hooks, glues, tapes or install strap buttons. It is actually a half-strap, with your strumming arm lightly supporting the sound box. Four different positions to choose from. Quick release buckles make releasing/ switching ukuleles quick and easy.

The Uke Leash Half Strap-

I play a concert ukulele and while learning a specific score, I found it difficult to support the neck when changing chords higher up the fretboard. I wanted to try a strap that wouldn’t damage my ukulele or make any alterations to it. The Uke Leash half strap is exactly what I was looking for. It helps steady the neck end of the ukulele so that I can reach different fingerings. I prefer the arm hole position and like that I can undo the headstock strap from the leash. I received the brown color leash to review. There are 10 colors available and a leather option.

{The leash is made of polypropylene so it might not resonate with some eco minded musicians.}

Tea Tree Therapy was born from an idea that everyone should have access to a safe and natural antiseptic! Therefore Tea Tree Therapy, Inc. was founded in 1997 by Ed Heftman and Suzanne Dean. Suzanne Dean, an Aussie native, is recognized as one of the leading pioneers of tea tree oil and has been one of its most ardent supporters for more than 3 decades. Tea Tree Therapy has established itself as the industry leader for more than 23 years by sourcing only the highest quality oil direct from the plantation in Australia.

Tea Tree Therapy Antiseptic Liquid Soap is the ideal face, hand, and body soap for everyday use. Tea Tree Oil makes the liquid soap the perfect antiseptic soap that is mild and gentle with addition of Aloe Vera gel and natural extracts. Working gently without drying the skin, it leaves skin noticeably clean and feeling well.

This company offers many tea tree products, all with ingredients listed on the website and the product. Tea Tree Therapy products are cruelty free. This is a must for me when using a product. Thank you for going cruelty-free and making a difference!

The liquid soap created a creamy lather. It rinsed easy and left a nice scent on my hands. We used it on hands and body. A little bit goes a long way. My six year old reviewer said he thought it was easy to use and “liked the smell”. This product is recommended and we will be interested in trying more of their products.

Picture of Room on Our Rock

There are two ways to read this story. When read from left to right, the seals believe there is definitely no room on their rock for others. When the book is read backward, the seals welcome others to shelter on their rock. A heartwarming story about sharing and compassion.

Hardcover book, 32 pages. ages 4-8.

The carefully chosen words complete another story when the book is read again by turning the pages from the last page back to the first. There are full page illustrations but limited text. To me, the limited words create more of a poem feel than an typical story.

It appears that $1 from every book supports the Refugee Action Support Program. The author’s website states Room on our Rock is “a story about empathy and thinking about others where as older readers are making connections to social issues.” I do not care to have a social message in a child’s book.

Kane Miller books are books kids love to read. Order online at Kane Miller Publishing’s shopping site Usborne Books & More.

Our Review:

This book is designed for students at the Kindergarten level/age and I find it perfect for my rising Kindergarten student. The spiral binding makes it easy to use and the pages (264) are simple black text on white paper. There is plenty of room for writing and drawing where needed. The lesson layout at the beginning of the book gives a helpful recommendation for using the course. Easy to use for a home school mom with no Hebrew knowledge. A fun/ enjoyable learning style for a young student. This is the first of a four book curriculum series. I highly recommend.

The book suggests accessing her website for videos, audios, and more learning materials for the Hebrew language.
