Picture of Room on Our Rock

There are two ways to read this story. When read from left to right, the seals believe there is definitely no room on their rock for others. When the book is read backward, the seals welcome others to shelter on their rock. A heartwarming story about sharing and compassion.

Hardcover book, 32 pages. ages 4-8.

The carefully chosen words complete another story when the book is read again by turning the pages from the last page back to the first. There are full page illustrations but limited text. To me, the limited words create more of a poem feel than an typical story.

It appears that $1 from every book supports the Refugee Action Support Program. The author’s website states Room on our Rock is “a story about empathy and thinking about others where as older readers are making connections to social issues.” I do not care to have a social message in a child’s book.

Our Review:

This book is designed for students at the Kindergarten level/age and I find it perfect for my rising Kindergarten student. The spiral binding makes it easy to use and the pages (264) are simple black text on white paper. There is plenty of room for writing and drawing where needed. The lesson layout at the beginning of the book gives a helpful recommendation for using the course. Easy to use for a home school mom with no Hebrew knowledge. A fun/ enjoyable learning style for a young student. This is the first of a four book curriculum series. I highly recommend.

The book suggests accessing her website for videos, audios, and more learning materials for the Hebrew language.

Grow happiness in small spaces…

GROW GARDENS are seed gardening kits created locally in Georgia by the Backyard Safari Company. The egg carton kits contain everything needed for the project. A very easy project for mom and a fun one for kids. Good for a classroom project. Also a good gift choice. Shown below are the two kits we tried. We have tiny little plants making their way up at this time. Best to do this project when you have the time to water frequently and provide sun. And shelter. We had a breeze upset our Salsa garden (replanted and all ok) so a sheltered area is a good idea シ

This fun style can be used for many occasions. I think it makes a cute cover-up. It’s available in five colors. Peacock blue is the color I have this in and I like that it is bright but also relaxing.
The fabric (50% poly / 37% cotton / 13% rayon sweater slub) is flattering and very soft. Sizing is accurate. Earth Creations is always a win シ

Kindness is the single most powerful thing that we can teach our children.

Follow Emily through her day with family and friends where your child will learn how easy it can be to spread kindness!

From sharing toys with her little sister to including everyone in the game – your child will see that no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.

This is a 27 page paperback about a girl and how she shows kindness. The story gives a brief one sentence example of a kind act, the phrase ” That’s a great way to show kindness!”, and a “light bulb” helpful tip. Each page has a simple illustration.
It’s a cute book but a very quick read for young kiddos. I think it would need a bit more of a story to be interesting for kids any older than 5.
Could be used as a story starter/ discussion prompt for more ways to be kind.

There are thousands of books and curriculum choices for parents these days.
Let us make it simple for you. . .
Have you given your children God’s curriculum?

It should go without saying that there is a good deal of wisdom and knowledge to be found in the Book of Proverbs. It was the original curriculum, produced about 3,000 years ago intended as the basic education for a young man (or young woman). Could this wisdom be just as relevant and just as important now, even after being displaced by a thousand “new and improved” systems of thought? At the very least, Christian parents should be most interested in providing this compendium of knowledge to their children from their earliest years.

Our children should be able to internalize and apply the principles found in the Book of Proverbs from their earliest years. If our children will be rooted in all 1,000-plus lessons found in Proverbs before they reach adulthood, they should begin to work through them as early as 8 or 9 years of age.

This workbook suggests an active approach to learning by the use of four basic steps. They are read, think, hide, and apply and is explained on the first page. Each chapter covers a Proverbs chapter and includes a select memory verse, a vocabulary section, a word search, and chapter questions. Discussion type questions reference further verses to read. The cover is cute but the book is without any illustrations. I like the illustration free, distraction free look. Uses NKJV and includes an answer key. Paperback, 200 pages. Highly recommend.

Take a look at the Generations site for this Proverbs lesson book and for more great resources.

In writing “Manners & Tips for Caring Kids” Ramona Wood created the book she needed as a child—and searched for as a parent. Now she brushes up on her manners alongside her grandchildren as she reads this book with them.

It’s not just about manners. It’s the meaning behind the manners!

It’s about thinking…instead of just acting

This book offers a quick introduction to the Fruit of the Spirit. The 32 pages provide practical ways for kids to improve their manners and includes various other bible verses that build upon a particular attribute. Easy to read and understand text. The pages are colorful and not overly “fruity”. Author Ramona Wood created simple illustrations that add in visual understanding and interest. A nicely done book!

This book is a 2019 bronze medal Illumination winner in the education category. Illumination book awards are designed to honor and bring increased recognition to the year’s best new titles written and published with a Christian worldview.
