Wonya Wood

handmade fencing – the kind for little toy animals – that is heirloom quality

I’d like to thank Mark Peachy for allowing me to review and share his fences here on the blog. It is truly a find as you won’t get anything comparable in retail stores. The fence has 11 sections that each measure 10″ for a total length just over 8′. (height is a bit over 3″) The fence easily folds into a rectangle block for compact storage.

Each fence section is joined by wooden dowels and the flexible sections bend (both ways) into whatever shape you want. Round like a corral or partitioned off different ways. And the most important part is that it WORKS. This fence stands easily on its own. Even on carpet.

Made from reclaimed maple. Natural wood with no coatings. Good craftsmanship resulting in a sturdy and durable toy. It’s a simple design for unlimited playing opportunities (farm, zoo, Jurassic Park)

A little bit about Mark:

I am a residential remodeler. I have always made things for our house and stuff for the kids. About two years ago I had a stroke that paralyzed my left side. I have recovered a lot of movement, but it still limits the remodeling that I can do. So I try to sell projects that I have made for the kids and that we enjoy. The fence is similar to what my amish grandfather had made for me. So I made some for my children and there cousins and the fences are enjoyed by all.

Wonya. My daughter Andrea could not pronounce her name correctly when she was young. It came out as Wonya. I thought it was cute and have always liked the name since, so that is where the business name came from.

Misc. information. This is a family owned/run business. I guess it would be consider a hobby turned into a business. One reason I have made items for our family (besides saving $) is usually the quality is much better than what you can get at Walmart or other discount stores.

No job is too big for the world’s most environmentally friendly tool kit! This awesome 15 piece set includes a tool box, phillips screwdriver, flat screwdriver, hammer, saw, wrench, pliers, 2 two-hole connectors, 2 nails, 2 bolts, and 2 nuts. The Green Toys® Tool Kit turns work into Good Green Fun™!

Green Toys Tool Set - Good Green Fun™

My Review:

This toy is made from recycled milk containers. SAFE being BPA, PVC and Phthalates Free.

Comes securely packaged in an all cardboard box with No unnecessary plastic waste.(love this!)

NO batteries needed. This tool set is recommended for ages 2 and up. My 14 month reviewer showed interest in this toy and it looks like it’s going to be a fun way to develop his imagination and fine motor skills. Sturdy plastic that’s surprisingly lightweight. No sharp edges.

Usefulness – There are twelve screw holes on the tool box but only two screws. I’m needy and want a few more. Also, I don’t like the design of the nails. Dad’s opinion is that they look like concrete form pins. But really, only someone with previous experience in the poured wall business would say so.

I recommend shopping Green Toys for safe, fun, and educational toys.

Elephant Playthings is a very small toy company started by Sherry Diaz – based in Chicago, IL.

Sherry Diaz is an artist, designer, woodworker, educator, and a super-proud mama. She teaches woodworking at the Chicago Waldorf School and has a design studio and workshop in the city – where she produces one of a kind, handmade furniture and toys for her daughter – and for all children!

Wormy Apple! A Wooden Lacing and Threading Toy from Elephant Playthings

a beautiful toy. smooth ash wood. sized perfect for toddler hands. simple yet entertaining.

This natural toy is meant to help children develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and patience.

lacing is an important manipulative skill (a skill developed while using an object). a good road trip toy. a good 1st b-day gift. my 7 month old reviewer has been entertained with the wormy apple and does a decent job working the string for his age. the end of the red cord is an ash wood piece that makes the lacing easy. it is cute watching his little fingers. and i like that there isn’t a right or wrong way to work this apple.

Check out Sherry’s website. She also makes a rocker board which really looks fun.

Roy Toy

Roy Toy of Maine USA

Our wood log building sets are made from 100% USA materials, with food-grade dyes used to provide color. We lightly emboss the surfaces of each wooden block for a smooth finish that is comfortable for little hands. Our building sets can be configured in an unlimited number of ways, providing hours of imaginative play.

I reviewed the Classic Fort for this post, but Roy Toy has many more sets for safe, fun building.

Classic Fort

Love it. The Fort Playset (140+ pieces) comes in a canister with the best of smells when you open the lid (it’s PINE).

“Wood” you believe I have to store my logs in another container because I can’t fit them all back into that canister, lol.

Batteries? No.

Tons of creative opportunities? You betcha! (There’s even room for elephants)

Note: Not for teething tots. Slobbered logs will make a mess. But the reddish coloring (safe, food grade dyes) easily wiped out of the carpet. (recommended for ages 3 and up)

A suggestion for Roy Toy: While the Fort Playset came with a tiny, black & white building instruction sheet, it would be nice to have a more user friendly (think young builders) instruction sheet. A simple, single page project with easily identified (and colorful) steps.

Hillary Sciarillo is the Co-founder & Creative Director of Yellow Label Kids. As an enthusiastic new mom, she started this ethically made, Eco minded collection. Yellow Label Kids offers you clothing and toys that are created, not produced.

yellow label kids

fun, stylish and functional

ethically crafted and environmentally responsible

Yellow Label Kids offers children clothing (sweaters and hats) and toys (dolls, puppets, and rattles). I reviewed the Frog and the Panda hat. Although both these hats are made of conventional cotton, they do have products that are made with bamboo yarn. (website’s Earth Friendly tab) I asked Hillary/YLK why only some of their products were made with Eco fabrics. Her response:

Because eco materials are unfortunately not available in all of the developing countries where YLK products were sourced. YLK began first and foremost as a Fair Trade company and began to incorporate eco-friendly materials as they became available.

My Frog and Panda hats were HAND-made in China. YLK products come from several different countries; I was told that “finger puppets, hand puppets, waldorf dolls, sweaters and some hats have been manufactured in countries such as Bangladesh, Peru, India and Armenia.”

Spring isn’t here yet-

Need a hat? (age 0-3) Hop on over to the Yellow Label Kids website!

This BarkBox review was eagerly done by Bobo, a service dog in training for Canine Angels. The box arrived just a few days before Bobo came to stay with us for the week (the BarkBox ships once per month on the 15th of each month) and it was a big surprise for him!

It contained three snack treats and two toys. Also a coupon for but he wasn’t interested in that. Contents: GetNaked Dental Chew Sticks from, Carob & Mint Treats/Dogranola Treats from, Monster Ball from, and the Knotty Bear from

Bobo ate the treats eagerly and there’s not much to comment about aside from them being healthy dog-treat choices. For Bobo, the treats were overshadowed by the The Monster Ball and the Knotty Bear. He loves playing with both and they have held up to his play this past week 🙂

The BarkBox is a monthly subscription service that’s sure to please any dog, and the dog owner or caretaker. The February box was a good value for what’s included and it’s obviously a fun way to try new products. Thanks Bobo for reviewing the BarkBox and for working to be a Canine Angel.

I wanted to start this review with pictures because

this guy is just too cute for words.

Maggie’s Organics sells apparel that includes pants, wraps, hoodies, dresses, camisoles, scarves, and socks. And Co-op Animals.  These animals are created with re-purposed materials from production. The excess fabric, irregulars, and scraps are made into animals by Opportunity Threads, a 100% worker-owned sewing cooperative in North Carolina. Together with Maggie’s Organics, something fun gets created from the raw material that otherwise would end up in the landfill.

Various animals are available as determined by materials. Currently, chickens are ready for homes. Another great idea for the Easter basket.

Embroidered details are securely sewn on to make them safe for all ages. (No buttons) Can be machined washed.

I received a co-op animal from Maggie’s Organics in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was received.
