YOGO produces eco-friendly, compact travel yoga gear. Our mission is to create greater convenience, performance and sustainability in yoga through better design. For every mat sold we plant a food tree with an impoverished family, providing food, livelihood and restoration.

Do you yoga?
Here’s a yoga mat that makes a great travel buddy weighing less than two pounds. (24x68x 1.5mm) It can be folded to a newspaper size mat by following the folding instructions. Folding keeps it compact and it also keeps one side of the mat the clean side. To be fair, I’d like to mention that I can fold my manduka mat in a manner that keeps one side clean, too.
It has a strap to allow it be be hung up for a wash and dry which is recommend every few uses to keep it clean and sticky.
This is, of course, a natural eco mat “made with biodegradable natural tree rubber from renewable long-term non-Amazonian tree plantations. Their straps are recyclable plastic so that at the end of the mat’s life all of it can be recycled or biodegrade.” It does smell like natural rubber which I don’t mind.
Available in several color choices to take yoga anywhere.

Bigger. Better. Beautiful.

It has been a long search to find my zafu (floor sitting cushion). But here it is and meeting all my expectations.

Handmade in Canada, it is made with a 100% cotton cover and filled with buckwheat hulls. This zafu comes in three sizes and Julie with REALthings helped in determining the best one for me. I use my zafu for meditation/stillness but mostly for floor time with a toddler. This cushion makes it so I can sit straight and comfortable by lifting the hips higher than the knees and letting the back straightening naturally. I am happy to avoid the posture of collapse (slumping).  With thought and care in its making, it does its job perfectly .

Mountain Zafu Blue Smoke

The website is easy to navigate and contains really helpful reading.  The start here tab will direct you to Meditation Cushions 101 (where you will see this cute illustration along with the info).

There are other cushions options for you including one called the Runa that Julie designed herself. The design looks pourposeful and I’d love to try this cushion style.

Key points about REALthings cushions
– we make them bigger so they fit North American bodies really well
– we make them by hand so they are durable and leave a wonderful impression
– we make them beautiful so you will be inspired to create your own oasis of calm and find moments of peace and beauty in your day
– we make them portable and versatile so people can use them for many purposes – comfort at work, travel and relaxing.
– we make them locally in eco-friendly ways  – we use natural materials, recycle our scraps and use biodegradable plastics and have minimal waste.
For all our American customers  – the prices are about 20% cheaper than listed because of the value of the Canadian dollar against the American dollar.  So for example a cushion that is $90.00 CAD is $72 USd . The same applies for shipping which is also shown in CAD dollars.

Satva Living

Stylish & Organic active lifestyle wear for the socially-conscious

The Sanskrit word, Satva, is a state of mind in which the mind
is steady, calm and peaceful. Satva means pure.

Wow someone with Satva fashion. The two Satva items I’ve reviewed below are absolutely wonderful. These are clothes that are “free from chemicals including: bleaches, toxic waxes, sulfur and heavy metals commonly used in the production of clothing.” This is so refreshing a find. {I’ve given up with most retail apparel shopping because what’s offered is scratchy, chemical smelly, gaudy-dyed stuff}

Satva Organic Warrior Bear Kids Toddler Yoga Tee

Warrior Pose Polar Bear organic cotton toddler t-shirt available in 2, 3, or 4T. Preshrunk and really soft. Sizing is right on. 5% of profits donated to WITS(Wellness in the Schools Program).

Another option in Eco yoga props, is the Bhoga Infinity Block. But really it’s not so much of a block with its ergonomic curved design.

Bhoga Infinity Blocks

I like that it is versatile. And Earth friendly.

In practice, I’ve used the Infinity Block in an extended side angle and my hand is comfortably supported on the curved top of the block. Made of rubber tree wood, this block looks and feels wonderful. It is sturdy and weighs approximately 2.5-3lb. I think it is kind of bulky for traveling with but for home use it is just fine.

The bottom & one end is flat so it can be used as a “high” or “low” help.

It also has an open middle and can be used for stretches with hands or a strap

Three Minute Egg

Check this out. An exceptional (“eggs-ceptional”) yoga prop. Designed to work with the body, the three minute egg’s shape is more comfortable and natural than traditional yoga blocks.

The shape was designed during the inventor’s recovery from back injuries and the name came from the benefits of short routines each day.

It’s an egg, not a block. And some are even eco.

ECO Eggs are 100% biodegradable and 100% made in the USA! In a process that began 2 years ago, Three Minute Egg has taken steps to dramatically reduce our carbon footprint. The first step was moving our manufacturing from China to our home state, North Carolina. We are proud to have taken this next critical step with the addition of an innovative, biodegradable foam ECO Egg. As always, we try our best to minimize packaging and waste and therefore do not shrink wrap any of our Eggs. In fact, our retail sets (2-8 Premium Eggs) come pre-packed in our Signature Drawstring Backpack so that you can take them out of the box and directly to class.

My search for the best bolster found me here

My Zen Home

We launch myzenhome with a series of cushions and pillows to support your meditation, breathing and/or yoga practice. All of these practices encourage a healthy mind-body union on the inside. Our hand-made cushions and pillows from Thailand provide a “supported” environment for your practice.

Aqua Yoga Boslter

Our yoga bolster is a wonderful support prop for yoga and/or meditation. As yoga accessories, they offer a tremendous amount of support to deepen your yoga practice. As a meditation or pranayama (breathing practice) prop, you will enjoy the comfort and style from these yoga bolsters. 100% Organic Kapok fill. Dimensions: 20 X 7 X 4 1/2

What I wanted in a yoga bolster

The shape: A rectangular bolster. Rectangular bolsters have a flattened top and bottom and look like a thick rectangle. I think a rectangular bolster feels better than a zafu cushion since it is wider and supports the legs better. It appears that the rectangular bolster is very versatile and can be used for many more things than the rounded bolster.

The materials: Organic Kapok. A natural fiber that I’ve heard is the traditional fill for yoga cushions, being used for thousands of years. I chose Kapok over buckwheat hulls because: of its cotton-like nature, it feels softer than buckwheat; it’s quieter; it’s lighter. I’ve heard that kapok filled cushions can flatten with use but that they can be revived by squeezing and fluffing up the cushion. Time will tell if that holds true.

I Am Yoga

Abrams Books for Young Readers

Sep. 8, 2015

Hardcover, 32 pages

Book Jacket

An eagle soaring among the clouds or a star twinkling in the night sky . . . a camel in the desert or a boat sailing across the sea—yoga has the power of transformation. Not only does it strengthen bodies and calm minds, but with a little imagination, it can show us that anything is possible.

This is a beautiful book. The young girl in this story does different yoga poses to put things in perspective. A playful story to show kids how yoga can be fun and help them. It has a kid-friendly guide to 16 yoga poses at the end of the book. Beautiful watercolor illustrations. A positive feeling book that I highly recommend for children and families.
